Hell's Angels on Wheels (1967)

Unlike many biker movies this one does not portray them as psycho’s but does portray them as hard drinking, disrespectful, wanderlust, beer wearing, fist fighting, sexist, orgy participants that murder seamen. Seems to fit.

The big name in this one is Jack Nicholson although then I would guess he was a virtual unknown. The lead and leader of the Hell’s Angels was played by the over acting Adam Roarke. Sunny Barger the then President of the Hells Angeles, appears in the film along with members from Oakland, Frisco, Daly City, Richmond and the Sacramento Nomads. This added some authenticity to the film which ended once they were no longer on screen. The opening scene with actual Hells Angels riding is the very best part of this flick.

The entertainment factor is less than fair but check out the old bike styles large fishtail pipes, king/queen seats and no front brakes! Keep your eye peeled for the wild and crazy Sportster riding Hells Angel, this kid could ride. The fashion styles of the day and the old expressions were entertaining in their own right but that does not make for a good movie.

The plot is thin and never really surfacing. In my best estimation Nicholson quits his job as a gas jockey and tags along with a group of red and white after one of them breaks his headlight and a fist fight ensues. He tags along becoming a prospect for this fist fighting, beer drinking and orgy throwing club. He falls for the leader’s girl who will sleep with anyone and becomes disenchanted. Wow, big surprise there.

The music blows along with everything else including the acting. My one and only favorite scene from the entire movie, is the bar fight with the rival club. Not bad as far as bar fights go. Been there done that but I wished we could have gotten a look at the patch worn by the rival club.

Several actors got to wear actual Hell’s Angel colors for this movie. I’m not certain but I don’t believe that it was ever allowed again. If you have absolutely nothing better to do and you can’t move then give this a look. Otherwise I say this one should rest in peace in the movie archive forever.

I give this one shot out of six!
